No matter what you decide to do for a living, you should never skip over education. It can give you a completely new outlook on the world and prepare you for whatever is in store for you. Luckily, education today is more advanced than ever, and you’ll realize that it was never so easy and fun to learn something, mostly because of educational technology. Simply put, educational technology can be described as using the Internet and different kinds of software and gadgets in everyday learning. Implementation oftechnology in education seems to be one of the best things that has happened to humankind, and there are more and more things everyday that make the education processlimitless.

Educational technology integrationhas mostly only positives, since it’s developed in order to help people learn whatever they need to know in the most efficient way possible. Some of the reasons why everyone should embrace these new changes and the fact thateducational technology is so important are:

  • Thanks to this technology, everyone can finally takesome online courses and spend more time on other activities. Online studying and courses have become very popular recently, mostly because they are efficient and flexible and there is no need to wander around in order to find the learning material.
  • This learning method is convenient – not just for students, but for teachers as well. The online teaching seems to be very effective and there so many ways to motivate the students with audios, DVD, software, programs, etc. Those ways have proven to be even more effective than face-to-face teaching.

I’ve been lucky enough to be a “beta tester” for the co-working space at Urbane on Adams and I LOVE it so far. As a resident and workspace participant, I’ve been able to really savor the work at home lifestyle.

There are enormous benefits to working from home such as commute, solitude, and kitchen access! But there are a few things that complicate working where you live, such as distractions, scheduling, and well, the ease of laziness. Here’s where a routine comes in handy.

Set an alarm. Setting an alarm gives me a sense of normalcy. It isn’t a weekend or holiday–it’s another day at the office. Have a ritual. Perhaps it’s as simple as making coffee or closing a door, having a ready to work ritual can let your brain know it’s time to re-focus. I try to do things that don’t involve the computer. Some suggestions: A quick, low-impact work out routine – Hand-write the day’s task list – Walk the dog. Keep a dedicated workspace. Even in a small apartment, a dedicated workspace is a must-have. Throw a plant in there or a slip-and-slide. Make it your own. And I beseech you; keep the laptop out of the bedroom. It’s horrible for relaxation and will only hurt your relationship with your partner. Keep some ambient noise. Silence will breed boredom, even when you’re busy. Of course, keeping the TV on is probably not the best idea. I suggest ambient music or a small waterfall–it’s your office. Keep a schedule. Know when your working hours begins and end and commit to them. Let your roommate or family know. Eat at a restaurant occasionally. Don’t let the conveniences of home let you forget the value of lunch with a co-worker. Even if you don’t have co-workers, schedule lunch with a business colleague or someone still stuck in the traditional 9-5. Get out of those pj’s! Changing your clothes is like putting your game face on. You’ll be more productive, even if you’re still wearing slippers with those jeans. What are your favorite work at home tips and rituals? Working from home is something many people daydream about. The thought of being able to work in your pajamas, in the comfort of your own home, without having to answer to a boss is very appealing. Unfortunately, there are many scams out there targeting people who want to work at home. Avoid scouring classifieds for work-at-home jobs, because most of them are not legitimate. Instead, search for real work-at-home options that can bring you substantial income such as fundraising. Fundraising is a highly coveted work-at-home job that allows you to earn money, while helping organizations you care about.

The Duties of a Work-at-Home Fundraiser

The job of fundraisers is to convince people to contribute money. The number of organizations and entities that require funds is practically limitless, but the number of people who are willing to donate money to fundraising efforts is often times much smaller. The duties of a fundraiser include developing and implementing fundraising campaigns, organizing events, sending out direct mail, making presentations, and much more.

The benefits of running a fundraising business from home include the fact that you are your own boss, you don’t have a set schedule, you get to stay home with your kids, and you get to work out of the comfort of your own home. Once you get a taste of the work-at-home lifestyle, it’s hard to return to a 9-5 job. Fundraising as a work-at-home job is especially fulfilling because you get to work with organizations, schools, and churches you respect. Essentially, you get to make money through helping people.

You just sit down at your desk and it is 9am. The phone rings, you answer respond and hang up. A supervisor stops by and tells you he needs you to complete a task by 2pm so that he will be able to present it at his big meeting in which he will make him a lot of money but there is no incentive for you. After hearing this you are on your way to another meaningless weekly meeting from 10am-11am and all you can think about is getting this assignment completed and how irritated you are about the limited amount of time you have. You just skipped lunch and now it is now 1pm. You are trying to figure out a way to get four hours worth of work completed within the next 60 minutes. With all this going on the only thing that motivates you is when five o’clock comes around so you can leave this behind for another day.

Does this sound familiar? There is no incentive plan to work hard and job security no longer exists in today’s workforce. All this effort and the average household income in 2007 was just north of $40,000. How anyone can live on that blows my mind. Not only that but did you know that less than 2% of the population makes over $100,000. You are worth more than what you are getting paid yet you continue to show up at 9am to the same boring job that makes you miserable.

Do you often feel stuck in the computer abyss when it comes to managing your company’s needs for web or information technology services? Businesses with fewer than 50 or 60 employees often find themselves struggling to keep pace with their basic web and computer support services and miss out on effective small business IT solutions.

Without the guidance of an information technology services provider, small businesses can end up wasting time and money on computer support services because they aren’t in touch with the best technology tools and practices for small business IT solutions. Even zero-employee companies can benefit immensely from a computer support services partner who shows them how to standardize their practices, save money with the right hardware or software and develop effective websites.

Putting Out Fires – Who Needs Dedicated Computer Support Services Anyway?

The approach often taken by small organizations when it comes to information technology services is one of putting out fires. No one has time to update the website, the network is cobbled together with wiring strung across the floor, and you’re not sure when the last backup really ran. Then, a hard drive starts going click-click. You call that guy you occasionally use for computer support services, “Joe-I-Fix-Anything-PCs,” to get the computer booting. That’s when to your horror you discover that the tape in the drive since last Tuesday wasn’t really backing up and the click-click is the sickening sound of your QuickBooks data being eaten by the dying hard drive.
