Being associated with film world many of the times i have been asked the question that should i join film school? And if yes then which is the best film school for me? To begin with i will like to answer the second question first. If you are looking for some really great film school for you then the NYU and USC are two of the best film school in the modern times and joining them can really boost up your career in film world. This two-film school gets most of their students from all over the world and it clearly shows the prominence of these two film schools. But the article here is not about which is the best film school for me? It’s about should i join film schools or not? So let’s get back to the topic. The answer to this question will be covering some of the major points that anyone should contemplate if he or she is considering film schools for film or cinema school education.

The very first thing that you need to know about the film schools is that they offer two major courses for the students, which are undergraduate and graduate film/cinema program. Now unlike the other schools the film school doesn’t have drama camps and acting camps. If you have opted for undergraduate programs then it will teach you general liberal arts education requirement that you will need to get a bachelors degree with major specific classes in television and film. Generally the first two years of the film schools comprises of predominantly liberal arts whereas the senior and junior years has most of the concentrated classes. 3 Things You Should Know About Film School Before Applying

There are 3 things most people do not know about film schools, which are vitally important to know. They are as follows:

1. Tuition does not typically cover production costs of your films. Oddly enough, everywhere from NYU to NYFA to USC Film School requires students to pay thousands of dollars on top of tuition to cover the costs of their films.  It begs the questions where the $10,000 to $40,000 a year in tuition actually goes. Florida State University is the only film school in the country to cover student film production costs. This is a feature they boast about on their website, but it is unfortunate that more schools don’t do this, because most production costs are not covered by student loans, and quite often a student cannot actually afford to pay for their movies on top of tuition.

2. Not every student gets to make a film. At schools like NYU, advanced classes are divided up into “directors” and “crew”. A Professor makes the choice of whether or not your movie gets shot or not. In NYU’s “Narrative” and “Advanced Production” course, only 10 students out of 30 or 40 get to direct a movie. Which means that even though you may be paying full tuition, you do not get to make a movie and you end up paying a lot of money to be a crew member on someone else’s movie.  Read more...
