Playa del Carmen is fast emerging as a complete and well developed urban city with an atmosphere which fosters community bonding and development. One recent example is the proposal of new YMCA at Playa del Carmen. The exciting proposal came from Debbi Ford, the director of the YMCA in Glendale, Colorado – Playa del Carmen’ sister city – as part of an exchange of programs between the two cities.
During Debbi Ford’s visit to the city, the staff presented the project for the new YMCA facility in Playa del Carmen. Playa del Carmen has ample resources both in terms of human and sports facilities for facilitating the setting up of the esteemed organization.
The tour included a visit to the Riviera Maya Sports Center, a location currently been considered by the YMCA board of Glendale, Colorado. Founded in 1844, London, England, YMCA is the oldest voluntary organization in the world. Its mission is to serve individuals, families and communities, ensuring their physical, intellectual and spiritual development. It boasts of than 45 million members in over 120 countries all over the world. In Mexico there are YMCA organizations in 10 cities, with sports centers, special education centers, centers for children and migrant children. If the proposal is passed then Playa del Carmen will join the lists of select cities in Mexico which will have a center of this great organization.
