There really is no list for the best film schools in the world, says Kevin smith, an indie film director who is renowned for his work “Clerks”. The simple reason for this is that a film school can’t really teach a person how to become a good director. 50% of it is talent and 50% of it is skill. The talent is either in you or not. Directing is certainly an art, and some people have the inborn talent for it. Going to the best film schools will only enhance this.
The best film schools can teach students to maximize their talents and let them explore and understand what they are up against. However, going to the best film schools is not a guarantee that your films will make it to the big screen. The best film schools give students an edge that you simply cannot obtain in other schools. The one thing to understand is that while film directing is an art, it’s also an organization. Meeting people who may one day help you create that movie you’re planning, making contacts, and making friends in the industry will one day help you realize your dreams of being a skilled filmmaker. The best film schools in the United States let their students understand that the industry is a network, and a network is what the best film schools are. Taking classes at the best film schools such as USC (University of South Carolina), UCLA (University of California – Los Angeles ) or NYFA (New York Film Academy), you have the opportunity in meeting great film makers, actors, producers who are presently working in the industry or will be in the near future.
